I remember as a boy we supported Missions and Missionaries. One Mission Field I remember most was the Lottie Moon Mission. We were told the story of how it started and what Lottie Moon went through to carry the Gospel of Jesus to China.

As the world of Christianity shrinks in the USA, we can not afford to lose sight of what our mission for Jehovah is. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrificial lamb for the Sin of all mankind.

John 3: 17: For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

What we often fail to appreciate is that this sacrifice was not just for people in another country. This sacrifice was for all of mankind; including your cousin, neighbor, mayor, senator, and illegal immigrant, just to name a few.

As a new Christian, we could not wait to tell others about the change in our life. But, when we returned to our worldly life, we were bombarded with temptations and attacks from all of the things we were familiar with and by people we thought of as friends. We started hiding our new Christian Faith and zeal for life from those around us. We stopped trying to tell others about the Salvation we found in Jesus Christ. We became uncomfortable and tried to, once more, be accepted back into our old circumstances and friends, often denying our change and our Saviour.

We stopped praying for those we cared for and loved. We convinced ourselves that if we just attended church quietly and gave a token donation to a Missionary, when the Pastor asked for it, that everything was okay. We have all heard sermons on the “The Great Commission.”

Matthew 28: 19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

We seem to think this applies only to those who are called to a Mission Field in another country. How utterly wrong we are. How easily we forget how The Gospel of Jesus Christ was brought to us, because someone did as Jesus commanded.

Mark 16:15: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

We were one of the creatures Jesus talked about. Now, it is our turn to “preach the gospel to every creature.” Not just to give token support to someone in another country. When we start doing as Jesus commanded there would no longer be a need for Missionaries to be sent to our local neighborhoods from another country or state.

May the Holy Spirit convict each and every one of us to do our work for Jehovah and to tell all of those around us about the Great Salvation to be found in Jesus Christ.
