I remember as a boy we supported Missions and Missionaries. One Mission Field I remember most was the Lottie Moon Mission. We were told the story of how it started and what Lottie Moon went through to carry the Gospel of Jesus to China.

It seemed as if all of the churches I saw had a collection for Missionaries like Lottie Moon. It was a great combined effort for a specific purpose.

Acts 20: 34: Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
35: I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Somewhere, along the way, we seem to have lost that combined effort. Churches started to send one Evangelist or a small group to some part of the world once a year, as an individual effort, in place of supporting full-time Missionaries for those areas.

While this may give the individual church, or group of individuals, a feeling of accomplishment it leaves the area visited without Mature Christian Leadership and Support. What happens when the church decides that it can not support or visit that area anymore?

These individual efforts, while commendable, are short-sighted and fail to recognize the gravity of responsibility for providing constant financial and Spiritual support to the new Christians until they can stand on their own. Without the day-to-day support, many of these new Christians will fail. What will we tell Jesus at the Throne of Judgment when asked “Why did you allow this to happen?”

James 3: 1: My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

We have become so splintered in the United States of America that we have fallen and are no longer considered to be the leading Christian Nation of the World. According to new information, the number one country for sending and supporting Missions around the world is South Korea.

It is easy for us to point our finger and blame everything from the “Government” to the “Homosexual Movement” for this sad falling away from Jehovah’s Plan. The truth is even more deeply rooted than that.

Within our churches, we no longer teach and preach the Blood of Jesus, Salvation through Jesus, or that Jehovah is a “Just God” who will punish as well as reward His people.

Our churches now plan programs instead of Revivals. We have “Seminary Trained” Pastors seeking a comfortable career instead of Men called of God to be Shepherds. We search for individual recognition rather than “Glory for God”.

When was the last time you felt The Holy Spirit move within you? I don’t mean the emotions from singing a “Chorus” or hearing a sad story. I mean a Soul Deep movement which can not be denied! Even as Paul was moved.

Acts 18: 5: And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

Instead of planning a once-a-year visit to somewhere; why not seek out a Missionary, called of God, to support in the area you feel led to evangelize? And join forces with other churches to help support and spread the Gospel of Jesus through that Missionary? Then, when you do visit, you can provide relief and support to both the Missionary and the new Christians.

That is how we can gain rewards in Heaven.

May Jehovah lay a Mission Field on your heart and lead you to provide a permanent presence there.
