I am Honoring the Friends my Father, Ray John Anderson, lost during the attack on Midway Atoll. He told me the night before the attack began the lagoon became filled with so many sharks you could almost walk to the beach from the ship on their backs.
When the attack started the shells hitting the island and ships in the lagoon came from all directions. Many Sailors and Soldiers were blown overboard. Right into that shark filled lagoon. They lowered the life boats and started to rescue as many men as they could. He got quiet for a moment and then continued. He said he reached down and started to pull one of his friends into the boat. As he lifted his friend he saw that his friend no longer had anything left of his body from the waist down.
At that point Dad switched topics and spoke about the Island itself. He didn’t say much more. He did make a point of telling me that the only building left standing, without any damage, was the Chapel. I recently found some old photos of Mom and Dads. One of them was a picture of that chapel. I hope to soon have those pictures scanned in so they can be shared. Until then, here is a photo of the original dedication to those who served at Midway during the battle.
I am Thankful my Father and most of the men and women I served with returned Home safely. But today is a day to remember all who have sacrificed everything to allow us to have Freedom. There have been many beautiful writings and pictures done to depict their Sacrifice.
But, it is hard to put into words, or pictures, how great the sound of silence, the comfort and peace I feel while sitting at my desk and write this. There is no sound of artillery, missles, weapons firing or explosions outside of my door. How precious it is to be able to sit quietly and eat a cinnamon roll and drink coffee without fear of having my home turned into a raging battlefield. Or, wondering where our next meal will come from.
I can not put a price tag on the value of my ability to read and study Jehovah’s Precious Scripture openly and without fear. In the Safety of my Home.
I offer my Prayer of Thanksgiving to Jehovah for all who “Gave All” so that we can feel safe in our Homes.
As Jesus said:
(John 15:13) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
From where I was we had many come out to our Church to pray and many more prayed at home or work. But, I find it disturbing that most of our National News organizations did not even bother to mention this call for a National Day of Prayer. They seem to cover only the kind of events which are filled with violence or the best wines. Why not good things like a call for Unified Prayer for Our Nation, The USA?
Fox News was the only organization which covered the Presidential Call for the National Day of Prayer.
But, I could not find where any news agencies provided coverage of any National Day of Prayer Events.
(Mark 4:21) And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
Please attend a Prayer Service and add your voice in Support of a National Prayer for our Nation. There is one near you. We covet your prayers and the United States definitely needs your Prayers to help eliminate the severe division found among all of our “Elected” Representatives. Remember, you either voted for or helped them to be elected by inaction. Do not let this opportunity to take action and Petition Jehovah to rescue our Nation.
(Daniel 9:19) O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
